BBMP says site allottees’ dues run to Rs. 80 crore
The Hindu
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to procure records and files relating to Girinagar Layout after it told the court that allottees of sites in Girinagar, Bangalore, are liable to pay Rs. 80 crore as dues to the BBMP. The BBMP made this submission when a petition by the association of allottees came up for hearing. The allottees had challenged the action of the BBMP on July 5, 2008, to demolish compound walls built around sites granted to them by the Girinagar Society. The allottees had urged the court to stay the demolition, saying that they had already given applications to the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to regularise the allotment of sites. They said they were only fencing their land against encroachment. They also said that the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had decided to allot the sites to them. Opposing the petition, the BBMP said the sites could only be allotted by the BDA and not anybody else. The BDA had only passed a resolution to allot the sites. It said the petition by an association is not maintainable. Seventy allottees, including Sudha Acharya and V. Somashekar, said if a petition by association is not maintainable, they would file individual petitions. All 70 petitioners filed petitions. Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh adjourned further hearing on the case and ordered the association and petitioners’ case to be posted together. Source: The Hindu
